Prayers

1 John 1

Glorious God, You sent Your Son.  He is the Word of Life made manifest to us.  We have heard the truth of Christ and we now proclaim this truth everywhere.  Grant that we would walk in the light as He is in the light.  Forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1 John 2

Father God, teach us the right way to go.  We don’t want to sin anymore.  Thank you that Your Son is our Advocate.  We will follow Your commandments, for we will walk in the way of love.  Help us to love You and to love our brothers and sisters in Christ.  Teach us to walk in the light as those who know the One who is from the beginning.  Teach the young ones to love You more than they love the world.  We need all the good gifts that come from You.  Grant us the simplicity of godly discernment, so that we will not wander from the truth.  We know Your Son, and He is the Truth.  Keep us from the antichrists who would lead us away from Jesus our Messiah.  Grant us the blessing of an anointing that comes from You.  May we abide in You today, O God?  We ask for this because we love You.

1 John 3

Lord God, what a blessing it is that we are truly Your children!  We are blessed already, and we shall be blessed much more when we go to be with You.  Even more still, we will be greatly blessed in the Day of resurrection.  Father, why should we keep on sinning?  We don’t want to walk in evil anymore.  We don’t want to act like children of the devil.  We should love one another.  We don’t want to be murderers like Cain.  We love our brothers and sisters in Christ.  We ought to lay down our lives for one another.  Teach us not to close our hearts when we see Your people in need.  Lord, You know everything.  We don’t want our hearts to condemn us.  We believe in Your Son.  We will keep Your commandments, for You have given us Your Spirit.

1 John 4

Sovereign Lord, teach us to test the spirits.  We know that Jesus the Messiah has come from You.  We should be able to discern who is from You.  The people who are from You listen to Your Word and follow Your Word.  The people that are from You love You and love Your people.  You loved us first, and You sent Your son to be the propitiation for our sins.  Cause Your love to be perfected in us.  You have given us Your Spirit.  You love us and abide in us.  We will abide in love, for we want to abide in You always.  Cast out all fear from our hearts, for You are perfecting us in love.  We don’t want to be liars.  We will love You and we will also love Your church.

1 John 5

Almighty God, we have been born of You.  We love You.  We keep Your commandments.  We love Your people.  You have granted to us the victory of faith in Jesus Christ.  The Spirit and the water and the blood testify to the truth.  The Spirit has opened up our hearts to the Word.  Through the water of new life we know that we belong to You.  The blood of Christ speaks a good word of Your love for us.  You love Your children, and we are Your children.  Keep us from sin that leads to death.  Help us to pray for one another, and to know true forgiveness from You.  We do not want to be in the power of the evil one.  Your Son is the true God and eternal life.  Keep us from idols.
