Ruth 1

Glorious Lord, You are well acquainted with suffering and loss, for Your Son visited us on this earth and tasted our sadness.  To lose a husband, to lose two sons, these are heavy burdens.  The Naomi who once knew life as pleasant has become a Mara through such providences, for she tastes the bitterness of suffering.  Bring us godly companions in our distress.  Help us to be determined in our commitment to our brothers and sisters in the faith.  Grant that we would see the fullness that we have in Christ, though we face the challenge of emptiness around the family table.

 Ruth 2

Great God and King, is there a Boaz for every lonely and needy woman?  Grant Your comforts in fuller measure to those who do not know the answer for their loneliness.  Thank You that You have given Your church men like Boaz who have a heart for holiness.  Thank You for Your good protection and provision for Your needy servants who cry out to You day and night.  Surely we are safe to take refuge under Your wings.  Give us joy when we see Your hand of provision in situations of desperation.  Please care for the weak and feed the poor in our midst.  Thank You for every good gift that You give through the hands of men, for You have made us safe, and have satisfied our hunger in a dangerous world of scarcity and loss.

 Ruth 3

Lord God, before the foundation of the world, You sought out for us an answer to our deepest needs.  Even though Your greatest gifts may seem to be shrouded in mystery, confusion, sadness, and shadow, one day we will see Your goodness in the glory of Your Holy Son.  He is our Redeemer.  We have come to Him with fear and joy, and we have not been turned away.  Though we are only worthy in the righteousness of Christ, in Him we truly are counted as worthy, for You have come to us in grace.  We love because You first loved us.  We have fared extremely well in Your Son.  We have more than we need for our entrance into Your Kingdom, and we have something of incomparable goodness to share with all those around us.

 Ruth 4

Our Father, bring about the glory of Your promises as the generations move forward.  Our Redeemer is at the gate of the city even now.  He greets all who come to Him when they finish their days here below, for He went to prepare a place for them.  Lesser men would have turned away from the cost of redeeming Your church as a bride.  The sacrifice was so substantial!  What a love our Boaz has for His Ruth.  Thank You, O God, for the most wonderful Husband ever known among men.  We have Christ, and He assures us that we are the love of His life.  May His house be fruitful, and may many holy men and women come forward from death to life as we are faithful witnesses of Your great covenant love.  Thank You for the wonder of faith.  Bring us the end of Your holy story of redemption soon, that our bitterness might be removed far from us, and that the fullest benediction of heavenly joy might be ours forever.  Come quickly, O Son of David!  In You we remember what it is to be truly pleasant.
